This past weekend, members of Stop TB Canada and our partners took part in Toronto Pride to highlight the disproportionate burden of HIV/AIDS faced by the LGBTQ+ community and the role that the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria plays in protecting the health of this community from epidemics like HIV and tuberculosis. With TB being the leading cause of death among people living with HIV, Stop TB Canada is committed to advocating on behalf of the LGBTQ+ community to ensure that these individuals can get the care and support they need.

Words Matter! Join our upcoming webinar on the language we use when talking about TB

After the recent publication of “Words Matter” by the Stop TB Partnership, lets dive deeper into the applicability of this language guide and what it means in practice for those living with and working in TB in Canada.

Join Stop TB Canada on Monday July 11th from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm EST to learn more about the importance of the words we use when talking about TB. We will discuss the history of stigmatizing language, reflections on appropriate vocabulary and Indigenous perspectives when talking TB in Canada.

Swarm Parliament Hill on July 20th

Join our partners at ONE for a stunt on Parliament Hill to create a “buzz” that cannot be ignored. On the morning of July 20, 2022, advocates in Ottawa will be swarming Parliament Hill to raise awareness for the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria by shining a light on the malaria epidemic in a creative way.

Some participants will be suited in mosquito costumes, while others will be dressed as fly swatters labeled “$1.2 billion”, demonstrating that eliminating malaria is dependent on an ambitious pledge of CAD$1.2 billion from Canada to the Global Fund’s Seventh Replenishment this year.

The people behind the fight: stories of the Global Fund’s impact

Results Canada recently developed a Prezi that highlights the role of healthcare workers around the world in the quest to end the epidemics of HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria and how the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria supports these health heroes.

As we embark on our final month of advocacy in support of the Global Fund ahead of a potential pledging moment for Canada at the International AIDS Conference, use this interactive tool to learn more and take action to #FightForWhatCounts. 

You will tour through some of the communities in which the Global Fund invests and meet health workers who bring the Global Fund’s programs to the people who need them the most. Embark on this journey to hear about the impact of the Global Fund on the ground, the challenges communities face, and the solutions that advocates like you can bring to the table – like getting Canada to pledge CAD$1.2 billion towards the Global Fund’s Seventh Replenishment this year.
