Sign the Petition to “Fast Track the Cure”

Recently, major scientific breakthroughs have resulted in new, shorter, safer, and more effective cures for drug-resistant TB (DR-TB). But many who need these new cures can’t access them today. Old treatments for DR-TB are still being widely used. These treatments take 18+ months to complete and are successful less than 60% of the time. Those living with DR-TB must be able to access new World Health Organization endorsed six-month treatments, which have a 90% success rate.

Sign this petition now to ask world leaders and partners in the global TB response to commit to providing universal access to new, shorter, and effective six-month drug-resistant TB (DR-TB) treatments by 2024.

Join the #YesWeCanEndTB Infographic Contest

Despite being the deadliest infectious disease in the world, TB doesn’t get much media coverage. In an effort to increase public awareness for TB and put pressure on the Canadian government to increase investments in TB research and development (R&D), we are launching the #YesWeCanEndTB infographic contest! 

Over the next couple of months, we will be encouraging you all to create your best infographic to share information about TB, the urgent need to invest in TB R&D, and the upcoming opportunity for Canada to reaffirm its commitments to TB elimination at the United Nations High-Level Meeting on TB this September. 

 

Contest rules: 

  • Post your infographic on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook and tag @ResultsCda by August 28, 2023. 

  • One winner will be announced in early September based on: 

    • accuracy of information/use of credible sources 

    • creativity and design 

    • inclusion of a call to action for Canada to increase investment in TB R&D 

    • social media text associated with the infographic (bonus: tag @JustinTrudeau) 

  • The winner will receive a cash prize of $150 and will see their infographic shared on Results Canada and Stop TB Canada’s social media accounts and newsletters! 

Tips: 

  • Use Canva or other free design tools to create your infographic.

Join Our Upcoming Webinar on TB R&D

Join our upcoming webinar on July 31 at 11:00am ET where we will be providing an overview of the research & development (R&D) landscape for TB, including an assessment of how global TB R&D investments compare to the financial need identified in the new Global Plan to End TB. The webinar will feature a series of expert speakers who will discuss the #GameChangers in development for new TB vaccines, diagnostics, and therapeutics, as well as current barriers to progress. Together, the speakers will illustrate the promising innovations in this field and highlight the need for increased funding to support such developments.

Lung Health Foundation Call For Proposals

Lung Health Foundation is inviting those working in innovative, evidence-based primary-care or community care programs and initiatives related to lung health to submit an expression of interest to present a virtual and interactive presentation at the Lung Health Foundation’s Respiratory Health Forum on October 12, 2023. The audience is primary and community care healthcare professionals from across Canada. 

The deadline to submit your abstract is July 7, 2023. Submissions will be reviewed by the planning committee. All applicants will be contacted by August with the status of their application.

‘Gamechanging’ TB vaccine within reach after $500m pledge to run final trials

The first new tuberculosis vaccine in 100 years may be within reach, after the announcement that more than $500m (£395m) has been pledged by philanthropic institutions for final trials involving 26,000 people in Africa and south-east Asia. Read more here.
