This past year, Stop TB Canada has been dedicated to re-invigorating our network to become thought leaders and advocates within the Canadian TB landscape. This annual report celebrates our impact and growth between March 2020 and March 2021, and paints a picture of where the network plans to go in the future. |

World TB Day 2021 was a huge success, thanks to the dedicated individuals and organizations involved in the fight to end tuberculosis. In our World TB Day blog, we highlighted how our network worked together to raise awareness for TB and increase the political will to reach TB elimination targets.

The world lit up in red for TB Despite the challenges posed by COVID-19, Canadians made it clear that they care about ending TB. Their collective voice was demonstrated by the record number of actions taken to light up landmarks, secure mayoral proclamations, and create a presence in the media to draw attention to this issue. Together, with our global partners, we lit up the world in red to stand in solidarity with the millions of people affected by TB and all those who have lost their lives. Our network used their voice Passionate Canadians from across the country made it clear that ending TB must be a priority. Members of our steering committee used this opportunity to showcase the critical need for further action in the fight to end TB, through several op-ed publications: Political engagement In the lead up to World TB Day, our network worked tirelessly to engage with politicians and educate them about TB. In addition to numerous meetings with Members of Parliament across the country, Stop TB Canada sent letters to the Minister of Health, Minister of International Development, and Minister of Indigenous Services, calling on Canada to scale up its efforts in the fight to end TB. Public engagement In an effort to raise public awareness for TB, Stop TB Canada participated in several events for World TB Day, including the webinar Together against TB: A World TB Day discussion on taking action to #endTB held in collaboration with Results Canada and Partners in Health Canada, and the York University Webinar Ensuring continued TB services during COVID-19.

Advocacy for TB Vaccines in Europe: Creating a Common Roadmap
|
|
The year 2021 marks the 100-year anniversary of the introduction of BCG . This century old technology remains the only TB vaccine available, yet it offers little to no protection to
adolescents and adults . On this centennial occasion, please join IAVI, Treatment Action Group, and Results UK for a workshop on TB vaccine advocacy , with a focus on the European context
and the way ahead. This 90-minute webinar will open with three short presentations reviewing scientific highlights from the upcoming Virtual Global Forum on TB Vaccines, the funding
landscape for TB vaccine research, and opportunities to strengthen European leadership and support for TB vaccine R&D. During the remaining hour, participants will discuss opportunities for TB vaccine advocacy in Europe with the goal of contributing to a common advocacy roadmap leading up to the 6th Global Forum on TB Vaccines, scheduled to be held in

Survey: the impacts of COVID-19 on TB programs in Canada:

The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in significant disruptions to TB services globally and threatens to jeopardize progress towards TB elimination. Unfortunately, there is a lack of data on how COVID-19-related disruptions have affected TB programs and services in Canada specifically. Stop TB Canada is therefore conducting surveys to assess the impacts of COVID-19 on Canadian TB programs. The Impact of COVID-19 on HIV, TB and Malaria COVID-19 has massively disrupted health systems and health service delivery for HIV, TB and malaria in LMICs in Africa and Asia in 2020. The report highlights the urgent need to scale up the adaptive measures that health facilities adopted to continue the fight against HIV, TB, malaria, to ramp up delivery of critical supplies for the COVID-19 response, and prevent health care systems and community responses from collapse. |

Psychosocial Counselling and Treatment Adherence Support for People with Tuberculosis ‘Psychosocial counselling and treatment adherence support for people affected by tuberculosis’ is a new technical manual created by TB Alert, with support from The Union, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Stop TB Partnership (STBP). It aims to fill a gap which frequently exists in current practice, by focusing on the psychosocial needs of clients caused by the social determinants of health and related factors. |

Quality of Tuberculosis Care Poor quality of TB care is a major issue in all subgroups (adults, children), in all forms of TB (childhood, latent and DR-TB), and in a variety of countries and settings. Given the Covid-19 pandemic and its negative impact on TB services, the topic of quality of TB care has become even more pertinent. This book, with 21 published papers, points out key gaps in care quality, and outlines several potential solutions. |

Gender and TB The 'Gender and TB: A Stop TB Partnership Paper' synthesize what is known about gender and TB burden, care and treatment outcomes. It notes that gender blind TB programming can result in the reinforcement and perpetuation of harmful societal gender norms, which in turn, undermine health for all. |
|

|
Neglected Disease Research and Development The 2020 G-FINDER report covers neglected disease R&D funding from the 2019 financial year, immediately prior to the global COVID-19 pandemic, and includes funding data for 36 neglected diseases. The report supplements the headline funding figures available from the G-FINDER data portal with a trend analysis that takes into account the impact of COVID-related changes in survey participation. |
