Be part of the international movement and light Canada up in red in support of World Tuberculosis Day!

World Tuberculosis Day is on March 24th but some of the planning has already started, including the campaign to light up city monuments in red!

Results Canada has put together some instructions on how to take action. This is an opportunity to get the conversation started with decision-makers, connect with other like-minded people in your city who are passionate about eradicating TB, and have FUN!

The Tuberculosis Research Funding Trends by the Treatment Action Group (TAG) presents new data on 2019 funding for TB research and development (R&D) and analyzes trends in investment since 2005. The figures for 2019 provide a last look at funding for TB R&D before the devastating emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

According to the Faire Share funding targets, Canada should have invested $25,300,000 (USD) in TB research and development (R&D) but only invested 76% of this target. Despite this shortcoming, Canada was one of only five countries to meet or exceed 75% of its Fair Share. Thus, while Canada has room for improvement in meeting, if not exceeding its fair share, it can also rightfully claim to be among the global leaders in accomplishing this goal.

Registration for the 2021 McGill Summer Institute is now open! To safely welcome as many participants as possible, the Summer Institute will be 100% online. 

May 31-June 18, 2021

The length of the courses varies. Visit the website for the preliminary listing of courses and the exact dates of the courses you are interested in attending.

The Summer Institute will continue to offer courses on TB control, essential diagnostics, antimicrobial stewardship, HIV management, humanitarian action, and clinical updates in tropical medicine. New this year will be a course on COVID-19.

The 25th Annual Conference of The Union-North America will take place February 25-27, 2021 at the Sheraton Vancouver Wall Centre Hotel in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

The Union-North America Region (NAR) is the regional arm of the International Union against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (The Union), a global public health organization with the vision to provide health solutions to the poor.

This Deadly Divide report by Stop TB documents how there is a major gap between the targets endorsed by heads of state and governments, and the results achieved. This is felt most acutely within communities, where it results in deaths and suffering. A Deadly Divide is informed by extensive inputs from TB-affected communities and civil societies worldwide.

This 10-point call to action is meant to parallel the issues that are outlined in the civil society “Shadow Report” titled, A Deadly Divide: TB Commitments vs. TB Realities released during the first week of December. The Shadow report responds to the report released by the WHO on Progress towards the achievement of global tuberculosis targets and implementation of the political declaration resulting from the high-level meeting of the UN General Assembly on the fight against tuberculosis.
