Every few months, Stop TB Canada hosts a Canada-wide call to bring people involved in the fight against tuberculosis together.

Last year, the Stop TB Canada steering committee was formed to guide the strategic development and implementation of the network by providing perspective, guidance, and expert strategic advice on our operations. The verdict: The Global Fund’s 46th Board Meeting

The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria has been reviewing its allocation methodology to determine what percentage of funding will go towards each disease within its mandate. This week, at the Global Funds 46th board meeting, a decision was made. Throughout its next funding cycle, the Global Fund’s allocation methodology will be the following:

• any available funds up to and including US$ 12 billion will be apportioned as follows (the current disease split):

  • 50% for HIV/AIDS

  • 18% for tuberculosis, and

  • 32% for malaria; and

• any additional available funds above US$ 12 billion will be apportioned as follows:

  • 45% for HIV/AIDS

  • 25% for tuberculosis; and

  • 30% for malaria

The impact that this new allocation methodology will have on TB funding will depend on the total amount of funds the Global Fund raises in its 7th replenishment next year, reinforcing the need for ambitious support for the world’s largest funder of TB programming. The 7th replenishment, which will be hosted by the US and take place in a challenging global health landscape, will seek to secure pledges to fund grants for the three years of 2024-2026, the first half of the next Global Fund Strategy that has just been approved by the Board.
