Stop TB Canada’s Response to Federal Budget 2025

Stop TB Canada expresses deep concern over the 2025 Federal Budget, which signals a retreat from Canada’s commitment to global health and development.

Budget 2025 includes a $2.7 billion cut to Canada’s International Assistance Envelope (IAE) and a 16% reduction in Canada’s contribution to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria, despite Prime Minister Carney’s campaign promise against such cuts.

At a time when global solidarity is weak and progress on critical global health milestones is in jeopardy, global health spending and international assistance require significant boosts to ensure pandemic preparedness, AMR prevention, and innovative systems of care. These divestments therefore undermine Canada’s role as a leader in global health at a time when its leadership is most needed.

Canadian Civil Society Concerned by Canada’s Reduced Commitment to the Global Fund

Canadian civil society organizations are concerned by the Government of Canada’s reduced pledge to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, announced last week at the Eighth Replenishment Summit in Johannesburg. Canada pledged $1.02 billion, which represents an almost 16% cut from its previous pledge in 2022.

Communities affected by HIV, TB and malaria, along with Canadian civil society, parliamentarians, health professionals and the research community have been clear that sustained Canadian support for the Global Fund is essential to protect hard-won progress. Rather than building on decades of leadership, the government has chosen to scale back its support – a move that undermines progress against three of the world’s deadliest infectious diseases and weakens Canada’s credibility as a reliable global partner.

Expression of Interest - Stop TB Canada Steering Committee 2026

Stop TB Canada is now accepting Expressions of Interest for its 2026 Steering Committee. We’re looking for TB survivors, researchers, practitioners, policy and program staff, and NGO representatives who are passionate about advancing the fight to end TB in Canada and globally.

The Steering Committee plays a key role in shaping the strategic direction of the network, guiding advocacy, strengthening partnerships, supporting technical work, and amplifying TB issues across sectors. Members commit roughly 10 hours per quarter, serve a one-year renewable term, and contribute through activities such as strategic advising, resource review, event tracking, media engagement, and public advocacy.

If you care deeply about accelerating progress toward the 2030 TB targets and want to help strengthen Canada’s leadership in this space, we encourage you to submit your expression of interest.
