UN High-Level Meeting on TB Multi-Stakeholder Hearing

On May 8, 2023, advocates from around the world convened in New York city at the multi-stakeholder hearing in preparation for the United Nations High-Level Meeting on TB happening this September. Stop TB Canada’s co-chair Tina Campbell joined a panel of distinguished speakers to share her insight into the ongoing TB crisis that disproportionately impacts Indigenous and newcomer communities in Canada. She highlighted the longstanding impact of colonization that continues to put Indigenous communities at higher risk of TB and called for urgent action to address the barriers that are currently impeding TB elimination in this country.

Join our UN High-Level Meeting on TB campaign!

Over the next few months, in the lead up to the UN High-Level Meeting (HLM) on TB happening September 22, 2023, Stop TB Canada will be working with partners in Canada and around the world to call on global leaders to take meaningful action at this meeting. Specifically, we are calling on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to attend the UN HLM on TB and recommit to TB elimination. Learn more about our asks of Canada here.

Stop TB Canada’s Response to Federal Budget

On March 28th, the Canadian Government released the 2023 Federal Budget, which (again) lacks meaningful plans and the necessary funds to combat TB. Canada’s insufficient financing of TB contradicts its commitments to TB elimination both in this country and globally, which are dependent on sustainable funding.

Tuberculosis highlights social inequity

Even though TB poses a rising global health threat, the global community is is not doing nearly enough to prevent, diagnosis and treat the deadly respiratory disease, leaving people in the most-marginalized communities at greatest risk of getting sick and even dying. Read more here.
