<image:title>Events - WHO World TB Day Scientific Symposium - Make it stand out</image:title>
<image:caption>The World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Society of Radiology (ISR) along with the World Federation of Paediatric (WFPI) are pleased to invite you to join a special World TB Day 2022 scientific symposium: Updated WHO guidelines on the management of tuberculosis in children and adolescents: the role of chest radiography to mark the release of updated WHO guidance. The new WHO guidelines include recommendations that span the TB cascade of care, from diagnostic approaches to treatment of both drug susceptible and drug resistant TB, to models of care to optimise TB prevention and case detection efforts. The new recommendations provide an opportunity to significantly improve the care provided to children, adolescents and families affected by TB. This World TB Day we are bringing together a panel of paediatricians, clinicians, radiologists, radiographers, TB affected communities, policy makers and programme implementers to raise awareness about TB in children and adolescents. We will discuss the new WHO recommendations on the management of TB in children and adolescents, with a special focus on the role of radiology to diagnose and treat TB in children. This webinar will be of special interest and relevance to an audience who are involved in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of TB in children and who want to better understand the role of radiology in these efforts. TB remains one of the top infectious killers in the world, it can affect everyone, but children and young adolescents (aged 0-14 years included) are particularly vulnerable. They accounted for 11% of the 10 million people who fell ill with TB in 2020 and sadly over a quarter of a million children died. Detecting TB in children can be challenging due to symptoms that overlap with other childhood illnesses and difficulties in confirming a diagnosis due to the paucibacillary nature of TB disease, especially in young children. <image:title>News - Underfunded and Urgent: Why Canada Must Step Up in TB Research</image:title>
<image:caption>Global efforts to combat tuberculosis (TB) are falling short, with funding levels failing to meet the urgency of the crisis and threatening to derail progress toward ending the epidemic. The recently launched 2024 report on Tuberculosis Research Funding Trends by Treatment Action Group (TAG) highlights both progress and urgent gaps in global TB research funding. Despite a record-breaking $1.2 billion invested in 2023, this is only 24% of the $5 billion annual funding target set at the 2023 UN High-Level Meeting on TB. The shortfall continues to impede advancements in diagnostics, drugs, and vaccines necessary to end the TB epidemic by 2030. Most public donors, including Canada, failed to meet the fair share target of allocating 0.15% of national R&D expenditures to TB research. Only South Africa and India achieved this benchmark. Key donors, including the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, accounted for over 50% of all contributions, emphasizing the over-reliance on a limited number of ‘megafunders’. On the positive side, philanthropic support grew by 47%, with significant investments in vaccine development.</image:caption>

<image:title>News - Reflections from the 7th Global Forum on TB Vaccines: A Call to Action</image:title>
<image:caption>Takeaways for Canadian advocacy The Global Forum offered a platform to showcase and discuss the latest scientific developments towards ending TB. But without political will and funding, these innovations may never materialize. Stop TB Canada is calling on the government to take immediate action to accelerate the equitable introduction of a new TB vaccine by: Investing in TB research and development by allocating 0.15% of Canada’s total R&D expenditure to TB, in line with the UN High-Level Meeting on TB. This funding is critical to support innovation across R&D for vaccines, diagnostics, therapeutics, and access. Supporting global health institutions, including GAVI and the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria, to ensure equitable vaccine rollout. Endorsing local manufacturing in high-burden countries to secure sustainable access to new TB tools. Encouraging new actors, such as CEPI, to join the TB R&D landscape, improving coordination and expanding resources for vaccine development</image:caption>

<image:title>News - Stop TB Canada at the United Nations multi-stakeholder hearing on TB</image:title>
<image:caption>On May 8, 2023, stakeholders involved in the fight against tuberculosis (TB) from around the world convened in New York at the United Nations multi-stakeholder hearing in preparation for the High-Level Meeting on TB that is happening on September 22, 2023. Stop TB Canada’s co-chair, Tina Campbell, participated in the hearing as a panelist, where she represented civil society and affected communities in Canada and called for urgent action in the fight to end TB. Tina, a registered nurse of Cree ancestry who has been personally affected by TB, spoke to her experiences as a patient, clinician, and Indigenous woman. She centered her address around the colonial history of TB in Canada, highlighting her own family’s devastating experiences with TB. Tina’s voice was a powerful addition to the panel, as Indigenous communities continue to be disproportionately affected by TB due to ongoing impacts of colonization and the health inequities that have resulted as a consequence.</image:caption>

<image:title>News - NEWS RELEASE: Canada is not immune to the devastating impact of COVID-19 on global tuberculosis care</image:title>
<image:caption>The report launched on 22 October by the Stop TB Canada Network, reveals findings from a survey initiative seeking to understand the impact of the pandemic on TB programs in Canada. Healthcare workers typically engaged in the response to TB, as well as people affected by TB across Canada reported diagnostic delays and individuals presenting with more advanced disease, large-scale diversions of TB staff to COVID-19 work, significant disruptions to active case finding, contact tracing and LTBI management, and declines in quality of TB care during the COVID-19 pandemic.</image:caption>

<image:title>Who We Are</image:title>
<image:caption>Stop TB Canada’s fifth annual report highlights the progress and impact of our work from April 2024 to March 2025. Over the past year, our network has continued to raise awareness, drive policy change, and stand alongside communities affected by tuberculosis (TB). Every initiative we undertook brought us one step closer to our vision of a world free of TB. At its core, Stop TB Canada is a growing, inclusive network open to anyone who shares our commitment to ending TB. If you're inspired to take action and be part of this movement, we invite you to explore the many ways to get involved. Details are available on the final page of this report. Together, #YesWeCanEndTB! Access the annual report here. See previous Annual Reports; 2023-2024 Annual Report 2022-2023 Annual Report 2021-2022 Annual Report 2020-2021 Annual Report</image:caption>

<image:caption>I am an Indigenous woman of Cree ancestry and lived a majority of my life in Nunavut. My passion for TB work started in 2010 as a nursing student during a summer placement at a TB clinic. With rates of TB being 290x greater than southern Canada - my learning and experience grew fast. I became a RN in 2013 and continued work as a TB Nurse for 6 years where my main roles were case management, contact tracing and surveillance. I then worked as a Territorial TB Educator for a year where I provided training, orientation and TB education to staff. I heavily advocated for cultural orientation for every health care professional providing TB Care, which focused on learning the historical events regarding TB and the Indigenous population. Since September of 2019 I have been in the TB Advisor role for Northern Inter-Tribal Health Authority (NITHA). NITHA Website</image:caption>
